미국출생의 올리비아 발렌타인은 현재 터키에서 활동하고 있는 섬유예술 설치작가로 1999년 뉴욕 Cooper Union대학 건축학과와 2002년 Rhode Island School of Design 사진학을 전공하고, 시카고 아트 인스티튜트에서 섬유예술 석사학위를 받았다. 《2012 Second City, with Firat Erdim》(Flash Atolye, 터키, 2012), 《1:1》(Happy Collaborationists, 시카고, 2012) 등의 개인전을 가졌고, The Whitworth Art Gallery, Knoxville Museum of Art, RISD Archive 등에 작품이 소장되어 있다. 주로 시카고에서 전시를 해왔으며, 2012년 한 해 동안 터키 ‘Babayan Culture House’ 의 레지던시 프로그램에 참여하여 섬유를 소재로 한 설치 작업을 진행하였다.
올리비아는 최근 여러 가닥의 실들을 매듭짓고 바느질하거나 오려내는 방법들을 사용하여 섬유건축물의 역사적 발전에 대한 작업을 진행하고 있으며, 이런 작업들은 섬유와 건축 그리고 구조와 해체 사이의 상관관계를 찾는다. 또한 건축물의 외관, 건물의 독특한 역사를 재정렬 함으로써 구조적인 힘의 반전과 기능, 지각들을 전복시킨다.
